Coffee Facts

Calling all Coffee Lovers this February!

Coffee Lovers, coffee beans in a heart shape

February is the month of love and if there’s one thing we absolutely love at Vending 4 You, it’s coffee! ☕❤️

And it turns out we’re far from alone. According to the British Coffee Association (BCA), the UK now drinks around 100 million cups of coffee every single day. That’s up from 95 million cups a day in 2018 and a huge leap from just 70 million cups back in 2008.

More recent consumer research continues to show that coffee has firmly claimed its place at the heart of British routines. Surveys carried out in 2024–2025 indicate that around two-thirds of UK adults now drink coffee regularly, overtaking tea and confirming our status as a nation of coffee lovers.

So, for Valentine’s, we wanted to share five fun facts about our favourite drink for all the coffee lovers out there.

Coffee and breakfast go hand in hand
Over half of all coffee is still enjoyed at breakfast time, with the rest spread between mid-morning, between meals and alongside food later in the day. So make sure your Valentine’s Day is kicked off the right way — with a really good cup of coffee.

The world’s most expensive coffee
Want to wow your Valentine with a seriously extravagant cup? You may have heard of kopi luwak, which can cost up to £80 per cup. Often (and mistakenly) thought to be the most expensive coffee in the world, it’s made from beans eaten and later excreted by the Asian palm civet. While its flavour is said to be unique, ethical concerns have led many coffee lovers to look elsewhere.

In recent years, the title of world’s most expensive coffee has belonged to beans sold at auction through the Cup of Excellence programme. In 2024, a new record was set when a rare Panamanian coffee sold for close to £5,000 per pound — proving that coffee can be a true luxury item.

Coffee as a marriage promise
Turkish bridegrooms were once required to promise during their wedding ceremonies that they would always provide their new wives with coffee. Failure to do so could be grounds for divorce! (We have to admit… we quite like this tradition.)

 It’s all in the senses
Our sense of smell plays the biggest role in how we judge coffee — more than taste alone. Aroma is key, so choosing the right blend really does make all the difference.

Coffee as an aphrodisiac
Coffee is essentially the world’s most socially acceptable stimulant. Studies continue to show that caffeine can increase levels of dopamine — the neurotransmitter linked to pleasure and mood — giving you that feel-good lift. The perfect excuse for another cup.

So grab yourself a cup (or two) of your favourite coffee this Valentine’s and enjoy the day.
